Pride Month

NSFW: Bunny sex lives are mentioned in this post. I know it’s been forever since I last posted anything, and I’m sorry for that. Life has been pretty crazy over the last year, and I haven’t had much time for anything I want to do. I am going to try to post at least one entry in this blog a week from now on. If I can, I will do more. Today, however, I want to share a story with you. When I was a kid, we raised rabbits. We sold them as pets to bring in extra money. One day we were given this beautiful caramel colored rabbit with chocolate seal point makings. He was gorgeous and we knew that if we had more like him that we could sell them. So, we did what we always did when we wanted to breed one of the rabbits, and we put him in a cage with a healthy female rabbit. Most male rabbits go crazy when a female is introduced to them, and they have their bunny way with her very quickly. He did not do this. He hopped over to the female, licked her head, and snuggled up beside her. He h...

Satire Saturday: "Colder Than a Witch's Brass Tit!"

Image
It’s Satire Saturday again! This is the day when we talk about odd things related to witches and witchcraft. Since we’re still in the middle of winter, I thought it might be fun to explore the origin of one of my father’s favorite phrases during the cold months. Have you ever heard the expression, “Colder than a witch’s brass tit!” when the weather is particularly cold? Have you ever wondered where that came from? Well, it has nothing to do with old women wearing metal bras, even though the words conjure those images in a modern mind. Instead, it has to do with climate change, witch hunts, and money. Let’s start with climate change. During a period spanning from the 14 th century to the mid-19 th century, our planet’s climate cooled substantially. Scientists think this cooling was caused either by volcanic activity, a drop in the frequency of solar storms, or a combination of both. This period is often referred to as “the little ice age” and it was a dark period for our spe...

Thaumaturgist Thursday: Garnets (repost)

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Garnet Today is Thaumaturgist Thursday, the day make a post about the uses of stones in magic. I hope you enjoy this repost about garnets. Garnets are gemstones that come in various shades of red and are associated with fire. They are the birthstone for January, and are considered a very lucky gift, and very unlucky to steal. Centuries ago, they were used to drive away evil spirits and demons. They are said to be powerful protection stones that warn you of danger, bring harm to your enemies, and cause those who would harm you to become spooked and leave. Garnets are also good for love, especially in the form of passion. Because of this they are often used to increase the libido. Some people use them to attract a compatible companion. They can also be used to obtain power and wealth. In short, there are many uses for garnets in the magical world. I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about January’s birthday. Have a great day. Blessed be. https://w...

Witchy Wednesday: Snowdrops

Image
Witchy Wednesday: Snowdrops For anyone who does not know or has forgotten, Witchy Wednesday is the day I post about herbs, spices, and other plants. I write both about their magical and medicinal properties. Some of the plants I write about are ones I am very familiar with and some I learn about as I write the post, so this is often a learning experience for me as well. Snowdrops, or Galanthus, are one of the birth-month flowers for January. It is thought to symbolize hope, purity, innocence, and sympathy. One of the unique traits this plant possesses is the ability to generate their own heat. They often melt the snow around them. They grow best in cooler, wetter climates, and bloom in the early spring. If you wish to plant snowdrops in your garden, you should plant the bulbs in well drained soil during the early fall. Since I live in a high desert climate and they do not like to grow here, I do not have any personal experience with snowdrops. It should be noted that snowdr...

Witchtip Tuesday: Karma Repost

Image
After a few of the things I have had happen over the last couple of weeks, I think it might be a good time to repost this. I’ve seen a lot of evidence to support the idea that the energy you put out comes back to you in a magnified form after several recent events. I know it’s tough sometimes but try to keep the negativity under control, so it doesn’t poison your environment. I hope you enjoy this repost and blessed be. WITCH TIP TUESDAY! Always be aware of your “Karma.” When you perform magic of any kind there is always a price. This is true for all aspects of life, but for now we will only focus on the magical implications. Whatever you put out in a spell, you get back a minimum of three times and as many as ten. A lot of people refer to this as karma and for the sake of keeping this post fairly short, so shall we. It always amazes me how many people seem to think they can escape karma, especially in magic. You can’t. Even if you stop practicing magic, you will still ha...

Magicians Monday: Candle Snuffers

Image
MAGICIANS MONDAY: Candle Snuffers Today is Magicians Monday. On Mondays I try to explain the different types of tools and their magical uses. This is mostly for beginners to the craft, and I usually only cover the basics. Feel free to skip it if you wish. Candle snuffers are not thought of as magical tools, but they can be particularly useful when performing magic. Candle snuffers are designed to extinguish candles without damaging the wick. If the wick is damaged, relighting the candle can be difficult or even impossible. There are many types available for purchase. Some even have hinges so that you can use the snuffer in almost any position. I don’t currently sell candle snuffers in my shop, but there are many other shops that do sell them. If you would like to see the items I do carry in my shop you can do so by following the link below. https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheAvidityWitch Have a great week! Blessed be! #theaviditywitch #witch #witches #witchcraft #pagan #met...

Sorcery Sunday: Janus

Image
SORCERY SUNDAY: Janus Today is Sorcery Sunday! For anyone not familiar with Sorcery Sunday, it is the day I post about a god or goddess. They can be from any culture or period in time. Today’s post is a slightly edited repost of the god Janus. The month of January was named for Janus and so it is only appropriate that we have a post about him for the first Sunday of the year. Janus is the Roman god of time. He has two faces and looks to the future and the past simultaneously. He presides over beginnings, endings, gateways, doorways, bridges, corridors, and change. He is believed to be one of the primordial gods or titans. When he is invoked, it is often done in association with another god such as Jupiter. The nature of Janus is one of the most debated topics among modern scholars, and because of that you find many different descriptions of who he was and what he represented. Well, that’s it for now! Blessed be! https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheAvidityWitch

Satire Saturday: The Origins of New Year's Day as We Know It

Image
Hello! If you are reading this, I hope you are well! Today is Saturday, January 1, 2022, and the first Satire Saturday of 2022. For those who don’t know, Satire Saturday is the day when I share information to dispel myths about witches and witchcraft and help people to understand the origins of our modern rituals and holidays. It may also turn into a day where a share a good joke if I come across any. Have you ever wondered why we celebrate New Years Day on the first day of January every year? I have and I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to these things, so I looked it up to find out. I decided to share my findings here for anyone else who may be curious about the holiday’s origin. I may not have all the facts right, but I have done the best I could with the information that is available to me. If any historians stumble across this post and would like to correct anything I get wrong, please feel free to comment on this post. I welcome your input. In ancient times the beginnin...

SATIRE SATURDAY: Warlock

Image
SATIRE SATURDAY: Warlock This is a bit of a tricky one. When people hear the word warlock today, they are likely to think of a male witch. This isn’t quite correct. For most of history, male witches were called witches. It is perfectly fine for a man to be a witch, since the word is not gender specific. It wasn’t until the 1950’s and 60’s the word warlock became a commonly used word for a male witch. This was in no small part due to television shows like “Bewitched” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” who used the word and ingrained it in pop culture. However, it is important to understand that this word has a dark history. Warlock is an old English word that originally meant traitor or oath breaker. Over time this became associated with denying the Christian god and therefore being league with the devil and being a sorcerer. I have also heard this word used by a few witches to describe a person who has betrayed their coven. It just goes to show that the history of the words we us...

THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Moldavite

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Moldavite Moldavite was formed when a meteorite stuck the earth and super-heated the surrounding rock creating the green stones we know today. It is believed to have been from an event that occurred 15 million years ago in Germany. This stone is best for boosting psychic energies and summoning extraterrestrial energies. It is often used for divination because of its connection to the future. Some people use it to contact alien life. My personal observation is that moldavite has an unusual texture, and the energy feels strange. I hope you enjoyed reading. Have a great day! WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Rosemary

Image
WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Rosemary Rosemary can be used in spring cleaning and I am sick, so it is getting a repost! Rosemary is a fragrant herb that most people either love or hate. Its scent creates strong reactions in people and there is very little middle ground because of that. It is a very versatile herb regardless of how you feel about it, and today we’re going to explore some of that. Medicinally, Rosemary is considered and antimicrobial, which means it can be used to combat microscopic organisms. Some people say that it can be used as an antibiotic, but I’ve always had better luck using it to combat fungus. It is also said to have antidepressant properties and is known to help soothe the stomach. Some people even use it as a pain killer. Medicinally, rosemary is a great herb to have around. Rosemary has numerous magical uses including protection, mental strengths (especially memory), purification, healing, love, lust, and is thought to help a person sleep. One of the eas...

WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Magic While You’re Ill

Image
WITCHTIP TUESDAY: Magic While You’re Ill You should never try to do any form of magic while you’re ill. If you already have a cold, flu, of some other form of sickness, your energy is already drained, and you should not drain it further by using magic. Trust me, the spell you want to do can wait until you’re well. Rest up until you feel better. Have a great week! Blessed be! #theaviditywitch #witchtiptuesday #witchtip #witch #witches #pagan #magic #nomagicwhilesick

SORCERY SUNDAY: Februus

Image
SORCERY SUNDAY: Februus Februus was the Roman god of purification. He is one of the lesser-known gods and may be associated with the god Pluto. He is the patron god of the spring festival Februalia which is a time of cleaning and washing. The month of February is named for the god Februus. If you need help with cleaning this spring, be sure to call on Februus for assistance. Have a great week! SATIRE SATURDAY: Nudity

Image
SATIRE SATURDAY: Nudity Many witches feel comfortable with their bodies and prefer to do their spell work skyclad or nude. Thankfully, you are not required to do your spell work or rituals in the nude. This is good because not all witches feel comfortable practicing in the nude, and clothing is helpful if you want to do an outdoor ritual and have neighbors. Have a great weekend! Blessed be! https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheAvidityWitch *Image stolen from somewhere on the internet. #theaviditywitch #satiresaturday #nudity #skyclad #witch #witches #witchcraft #pagan #ritual #spells

THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Kyanite

Image
THAUMATURGIST THURSDAY: Kyanite Kyanite, in my opinion, can best be described as an empathy stone. It helps the person wearing it understand gain compassion and understanding in those around them. It helps to remove ignorance and fear. It helps us to understand how our past affects our present, especially when it comes to our karma. This stone is known to help connect us to our guardians and guides, and it helps us draw in positive and healing energies from the universe. Because of these properties it can be very good for helping to relieve stress. You also never have to cleanse it like many other stones. Its high energy takes care of that for you. I hope you enjoyed this post. Have a great day!
